Lindsay at 1oilforlife provided me with product in exchange for my review. All opinions are honest and 100% my own.
Essential oils are everywhere! If you haven’t tried them yet maybe you’re curious, or maybe you’re like many people and you’re a little skeptical. For a long, long time I wondered what the fuss was about. I got some samples to try and I didn’t see what the big deal was. I didn’t see or feel a difference. I read a lot about them, saw testimonials all over the place.. The rave reviews were left, right, and centre! So why wasn’t I experiencing the same thing?
Essential oils can be used for pretty much anything including reducing stress and alleviating headaches, increasing your focus, soothing tired or pained muscles, purifying your body, emotional balance, to support your immune system, and much more. You can even use oils to clean, add natural scent to your clean laundry (via dryer balls), or even deodorize your home naturally. You can apply oils topically, you can diffuse them, or you can ingest them. Thus far I have only applied them topically and diffused them. I won’t lie but ingesting them makes me nervous. To each his own, however, and many people DO, and swear by it. If you choose to, please ensure you are well educated and aware of how to do so SAFELY before you do.
How did I start using oils?
I started with using Lavender to relax and wind down before bed. Lavender is one of the most popular oils since it is so widely used as a sleep and relaxation aide. I also used a roller blend that I had given to me in the past that is called “happy blend“, which is comprised of Balance, Elevation, Frankincense & Wild Orange. I started using that regularly and found it helped lift my spirits and mood, plus it smells great, so it makes a good non-toxic perfume. I used Peppermint to clear up stuffed sinuses when we were sick and applied it (diluted, always dilute your oils before applying) to the bottoms of B’s feet when she is congested. Also, I used Wild Orange to make the house smell clean and fresh. These are just some examples of how I used my oils day to day, but there are literally hundreds of different uses, combos, and oils available.
I won’t forget the moment that changed everything for me, though. The moment that converted me from a skeptic to a believer. I had a bad headache and I messaged Lindsay. She told me to apply Peppermint to my temples and massage lightly, then put a drop into my hands, cup over my nose, and breathe. Within minutes my headache was GONE. Previously I used to have to take TWO extra strength Advil to alleviate the pain, and it didn’t always work.
THEN, as if that moment hadn’t changed my mind enough, B was sick with a cough and stuffed nose. I used Peppermint on her feet, Lemon on her chest, and diffused Lemon and On Guard in her room. I re-applied them regularly and diffused them non-stop, and the next day she was fine again.
The. Next. Day, guys. THE NEXT DAY. Not a week later, not two weeks later – about the length of an average cold. But the next day. It was pure craziness.
So who is Lindsay?
I met Lindsay of 1 Oil For Life via Instagram, and to be honest at that point I was really unsure if I wanted to bother with oils ever again. But Lindsay asked if she could send me a book about how to use them, info on each oil, how to create blends, etc.. After reading through the book when it arrived in the mail I quickly found out that in the past I wasn’t using the oils properly and thought that maybe that could be why they weren’t working for me! The book is like an encyclopedia for all things essential oil, and I have found myself on a few occasions now grabbing it so I could remedy something as opposed to heading to my medicine cabinet.
Lindsay sent me a diffuser and some Winter wellness blends she made, as well as a hand sanitizer. The blends are incredible, and saved our BUTTS when B was sick this season. There’s a blend for pretty much anything that could make you sick in the colder months – cough blend, chest blend, belly blend, and more. The hand sanitizer is awesome to keep the germs away without harmful toxins or nauseating smells. Lindsay is incredibly knowledgeable about essential oils. She sells them through DoTERRA, but she isn’t like other MLM or direct sales people you’ve probably seen around (and maybe avoided). She isn’t pushy or annoying, and she really knows her stuff. She is my go-to person whenever I have a question about oils, which probably drives her nuts, but she’s far too nice to ever tell me, if so 😉
Why essential oils?
The biggest benefits to essential oils are that they are non-toxic to our body, our children, and our pets. They’re environmentally friendly. They promote natural well being, both emotionally and physically, which obviously improves our quality of life. They give us choices and alternatives to over-the-counter or prescription medications and products. But do remember that essential oils are not a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment whether it’s for you, your child, or your pet.
I am still very much a beginner when it comes to using oils, but I highly, highly recommend giving oils a shot. For me, they make a difference. My “happy blend” helps me feel fresh and.. well, happy! And Peppermint makes a huge difference on some of the headaches I have, helping to make sure they don’t become migraines or keeping me from having to take Advil. I also don’t know how I would’ve gotten B through her sick days this season without our Winter wellness blends or our diffuser. Or above all else, without Lindsay’s help, tips, and friendship!
My name is Lindsay Scarborough. I am 35 and have 6 children. A 12 year old daughter, 9 year old daughter, 7 year old son, 4 year old daughter, 2 year old daughter, and number 6 is a baby boy due in March! Hubby is military and we are currently living in Waukee, Iowa.
I wasn’t always “crunchy” or naturally minded. In fact, when I was 22ish and started having children I didn’t question much and was lead down the typical doctor/medicinal path. My second daughter was very ill and had a very weakened immune system. Doctor after doctor would prescribe medicines that would not help her much. Her kidneys started to suffer. I began doing my own research which lead us into herbs for about 3 years, and I loved it! BUT they were expensive and their shelf life was short. I began doing more research and experimenting with essential oils, and wow! I was quickly amazed at how little we had to use to gain the same sort of success or result. We changed our lifestyle and began exploring, using and loving essential oils and natural/holistic remedies. Fast forward to now, daughter and family are well, immunity is great and when and if we do get sick we are able, equipped and empowered to handle it. If not we do use doctors and medicines if and when the time comes. But more often than not we are good to go with what we have in our “natural medicine cabinet” at home!
Do you use essential oils in your home? What works best for you? Are you skeptical? I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts!
