Erika’s Skintimate Solutions provided me with tan and lash extension services in exchange for my post. All thoughts and opinions reflected are 100% my own.
That’s a pretty good word to accurately describe how I feel during the Winter months. I’m not a fan of the cold or snow. I always get a cold or two. My lips get chapped. The early darkness and grey skies make me bummed out… You get the picture! I’m just not a fan, and highly susceptible to Seasonal Affective Disorder (Also known as “S.A.D.” which is the most ironic acronym ever). One day I found myself looking in the mirror and feeling pale, and “blah”, so I was desperately looking for a way to brighten my appearance to get me through the grey, blizzardy months. I’m going to share my 5 Fresh Summer Beauty Tips for Winter with you guys, because they really helped me feel better.
Rock a summer glow
The first thing I recommend is getting a nice summer glow. I went and got an Organic Tan from Erika’s Skintimate Solutions. Erika was super professional and personally applied the tan to make sure it was even and perfect. I highly recommend a personal application like Erika does over a machine or a lotion tan because the coverage is perfect, well blended, and looks natural. Since I exfoliated before my tan and moisturized well while I had it, my tan lasted for over 10 days before it faded entirely. There are undeniable risks associated with tanning beds, so I cannot recommend that as a means to tan or to rid yourself of Seasonal Affective Disorder (even though some doctors actually suggest it – yeah really!). Instead I recommend going outside and getting some fresh air, and then jump in that car and head to get an Organic Tan. It immediately brightens your skin and makes you feel confident and sun kissed.

Get your nails done
I love wearing bright nail polish in the Winter, especially on my toes. When it’s just on my toes it’s a nice pop of colour that only I see, and it makes me feel like I’m about to hit the beach. Usually I wear the matching colour on my nails, but Winter nail shades are gorgeous too, so it just depends how I’m feeling that week. But a splash of a bright, summery colour on your fingers will for sure brighten your spirits and your look! Erika’s Skintimate Solutions also offers manicures and pedicures, with foil and glitter options to take the shine even further. My favourite shade to rock is aqua, of course.

Make your lashes POP
When my lashes are dark and full my eyes feel bigger and brighter, so I headed to see Erika to get some eyelash extensions! If you haven’t heard about this process, what happens is the esthetician applies one or two false lashes to your own lash with some glue. When you’re all done you have a full set of thick lashes that last 3 – 4 weeks. You don’t have to wear a drop of mascara! I LOVE THEM. The biggest reason I loved them was because I don’t always have time for makeup, and with the extensions I felt pretty every single day, even with no makeup on. I rarely feel pretty every single day, even when I do have the chance to do my makeup, so it’s a no brainer for me – That is major value!
Play with your hair colour
Many women choose to go with darker shades for their hair in the Winter, but I personally love to lighten mine. It reminds me of Summer, when the sun is hitting it and lightening it with natural highlights. I highly recommend my hair stylist Bethany of This Little Salon if you’re looking to make a change to your hair and are in the Guelph area. You can check her out on Instagram here!
Try some bright makeup colours
Possibly the most fun of the options, playing with bright colours of makeup is a quick an easy way to feel bright and fresh in the Winter. You probably already know you can contour your face and add bronzer to look sun kissed and chiseled, but have you thought about using a bright liquid liner, or a hot pink lip? Just because it’s Winter doesn’t mean you have to stick to neutral, dark colours. Sure, everyone loves a deep wine lip, but coral, bright red, and hot pink are SO fun and sure to brighten your smile and face! If you’re looking for some great makeup tutorials and tips, check out my bestie Meg’s blog – megoonthego.com. And here are some bright and fun liners worth trying!
