THIS STUFF IS COOL, guys!
I was sent some Sands Alive to give a try and let me just say right off the bat, we love it. I always loved playing in the sand and water activity tables at school when I was a kid, and my mom even got me a turtle shaped sand box for our backyard.
Living where I do we aren’t close to any “real” beaches, so if we wanna play with sand like that – the real, good stuff – we have to do so in a sand box or sand activity table. That’s why when I was asked to check Sands Alive out for a review I was totally on board.
I currently run a daycare out of my home and I have a 6-year-old little guy who I figured this would be perfect for. Man was I ever right! He loves it! It came with this awesome container to keep it in and play with it in, and I helped him build hills and roads for his cars. The kit comes with sculpting tools like a rolling pin and a dull, plastic knife.
The texture isn’t exactly that of sand. It’s almost like a sort of melted marshmallow covered in sand. I can’t think of a better way to describe how it sticks together and remains in tact, yet is entirely mouldable. I suppose it’s similar to play-doh, but sandy!
Anyway, it’s really awesome, and clean up is very easy – all I did was pick up a piece of the Sands Alive, roll it up into a ball, and touch it to the tiny bits that had gotten stuck to the car wheels and fallen out of the container. They stuck to the ball and BOOM – clean. Even better, I can just tuck it away until the kiddos wanna play with it again and grab it.
Sands Alive is recommended for children over the age of 3, but I didn’t mind B exploring it because it’s entirely non-toxic! You can find it at Chapters Indigo (for Canadians). I highly recommend picking up some Sands Alive and giving it a go – bring the beach to you!
