With the grass getting greener and the days getting warmer, it’s natural to feel antsy to clean up the backyard, do some gardening, light up the barbecue and spend the days relaxing in the beautiful sun. Obviously you’re going to want to have the kiddos outdoors with you, so here are some of my recommendations for outdoor toys to keep your little ones (or even yourselves) busy and entertained.
Bath Toys – Babies
Bath toys are perfect as outdoor toys for babies! First of all, they’re water proof, so you don’t have to be concerned about leaving them outside when it rains. Secondly, they can be easily cleaned if they get dirty – just hose ’em down! And finally, some bath toys actually interact with the water, and water play is a lot more fun outside, and less mess for mom.
Kiddie Slides/Swings – Toddlers
What better way to enjoy the outdoors than on a piece of playground equipment, made for the tiniest little ones, and right in your own backyard!? The playground pieces made for toddlers are generally made from plastic, brightly coloured, and easy to set up within minutes. A bonus for littles ones who can easily become impatient for play time!
Chalk – Kids
Endless opportunities for children to use their imagination. Then just rinse away with the hose or the week’s rain showers, and start again! I STILL love drawing with chalk and I’m almost 28 years old. Even if your child isn’t into art, chalk is perfect for games of tic-tac-toe, or hopscotch!
Slip n’ Slide – Pre-teens
Beating the heat AND burning off copious amounts of energy is easy to do with the slip n’ slide. Plus they have so many awesome options these days, like the one pictured above which would make for some great races. And you don’t need a hill or anything, just a hose and some leg power.
Sports Equipment – Teens
This is probably the easiest time killer for teens, and by this time they’re likely on a sports team or two at school, as well. Whether you have a basketball net, a badminton/volleyball set, or simply a soccer ball or mitt and baseball, teens can practice their skills AND enjoy the season with gear for their favourite sports. PLUS, dad will likely want to get in on it and play with his kid(s), too.
Bocce Ball/Lawn Games – Adults
I don’t care who you are – if you haven’t played bocce, you MUST. It’s really easy and all you need is a set to play, and they can be found pretty much anywhere these days, like Walmart or Target.
